Forensic approach to excellence as Advanced Learning takes off at Balbriggan Community College.

A new initiative to cater for students with exceptional academic ability has moved into its second year at Balbriggan Community College.  The ‘Advanced Learning Programme,’ is an extra-curricular academic based collection of courses to cater for the enquiring minds of students in the school.
This term’s modules were ‘Public Speaking,’ and an Engineering & Technology  based module for the National F1 Car Design competition for schools.  Ten students from second year have put the finishing touches to their initial design process and will continue with the actual building of a scaled down F1 car as part of the ‘Advance Learning Programme’s’ third term.  This term’s module of ‘Forensic  Science,’ includes actual detective work and chemical investigations.  The students have donned the gloves and lab coats familiar to most from CSI Miami and are getting out into the field to put their scientific minds to the test!
Courses so far have included Local History, Computer Programming and Science workshops.
Recognising the need to cater for students who have shown exceptional ability in school, Balbriggan Community College started up the ‘Advanced Learning Programme’ to supplement and encourage cross curricular learning in all academic areas.
