The Community College has received a massive vote of confidence from the Dept of Education in its ability to cater for the educational needs of Balbriggan and its environs with news that additional accommodation is to be provided for an extra 430 pupils. The additional numbers will bring the student population up to approximately 1,000 pupils. The Department of Education foresees pupil numbers rising in the town and has recognised Balbriggan Community College as a strong candidate to assimilate, cater and provide for the growth expected.
Recent upgrades to the Drogheda Street school building through an overhaul and refurbishment resulting in the construction of the multi-purpose John Bailey Hall, along with the creation of up-to-date Engineering, Metalwork, Home Economics and Music rooms, and the establishment of a new Technology building, have already improved school facilities. But news of a further building, consisting of specialist rooms, to be added to the existing main building, is another boost for the college. The developments coincide with the start of work on a new school gym. The existing building is to be demolished and a new, multi-purpose gym, with meeting rooms and office space has been given the green light. The gym project is the result of partnership between the Department of Education, Fingal County Council and the VEC. The gym will be of use to the whole community as a hub for all fitness and sporting needs.
