Andrew Kettle wins top Business Award


Congratulations to Andrew Kettle (4th Year) who was awarded for his high achieving "A" grade in his Junior Certificate Business Studies Examination 2011.
DCU Business School, in conjunction with The Business Studies Teachers' Association of Ireland run an award scheme to give recognition and encouragement to the top performers in Business Studies in Dublin each year.
Andrew was placed in the top 50 "A" grade results.
Congratulations to Andrew on his great achievement and to his teacher Ms. McGrath from all at Balbriggan Community College.

Young Scientists excell in BTYS Finals at the RDS

Balbriggan Community College with help from Eva-Tech Ltd's sponsorship agreement have entered three projects in the BT Young Scientist this year. Seven students are taking part in the event.

The School Awards Committee has introduced a new awards ceremony at the end of the calander year for students who have recieved outstanding grades and achievements in their classes over the year to date. Great Fun as Santa visits the annual Student Christmas Table Quiz

There was great fun had by all in the John Bailey hall on Dec 23rd as students tested their general knowledge skills to win the annual Student Christmas Table Quiz. It was won by a group of 4th Year students who excelled in a difficult quiz. A surprise visit of Santa Claus and his Elves was very welcome and enjoyed greatly by all. Students congratulate Ms Roche on her Retirement

Both staff and students of Balbriggan CC bid a fond farewell to a very popular Year Head and teacher in the John Bailey Hall last Wednesday. Ms Roche, a Home Economics teacher and Year Head to the 4th years, decided to retire and her students were very eager to thank her for all her hard work and for the dedication she has shown them. Well done to the students for running a very successful christmas campaign for St. Vincent de Paul. This year the students arranged and donated eighteen hampers. Major expansion details announced at Balbriggan Community College Campus

The Community College has received a massive vote of confidence from the Dept of Education in its ability to cater for the educational needs of Balbriggan and its environs with news that additional accommodation is to be provided for an extra 430 pupils.  The additional numbers will bring the student population up to approximately 1,000 pupils.  The Department of Education foresees pupil numbers rising in the town and has recognised Balbriggan Community College as a strong candidate to assimilate, cater and provide for the growth expected.more

Sam Visits Balbriggan CC

There was great excitement around Balbriggan CC on Wednesday November 23rd as Dublin Gaelic Football heroes Eamon Fennell and Michael Darragh Macauley visited the school for a question and answer session with the school's GAA teams. Tomorrow is Sponsored Walk day at Balbriggan Community College. The weather is to be wet but spirits will be high as the annual fundraiser kicks off. This important event helps raise money for the many extra-curricular events that are held in the school.

Advanced Learning Programme (ALP) second modules announced

The Advanced Learning Programme is in its second year at Balbriggan Community College and is proving a major success. It targets junior cycle students who are of exceptional ability and who are easily progressing through the Junior Certificate curriculum and challanges them to further enhance their skills in areas that they wouldn't be challanged in. Having just finished the first term modules of 'Public Speaking' and 'F1 Engineering and Business Design Challenge', the students are starting the second term with modules in 'Forensic Science' and 'Computer Programming 2'. The students are really enjoying the programme and their status as top achievers. We will keep you posted on their successes.

Young Scientist and Technology Competition 2012

It's that time of year again and the young scientists are working extremely hard, testing and examining solutions to the problems and questions that people all around the world have been asking themselves for centuries. The school has a number of entries again this year to the major exhibition which takes place in the RDS during the first week of January. All groups have submitted their proposals to earn the right to showcase their project on a national stage. We expect to hear how they did very soon so best of luck to them all and we'll let you know how they get on! Education Minister Ruairi Quinn T.D. has approved plans to abolish the Junior Certificate and replace it with a radical new programme.

The new system, which will be introduced in schools from 2014, will see a much greater emphasis on continuous assessment. Children who are now in fourth class in primary school will be the first to experience the new programme, which will also allow students gain marks for activities such as debating or drama. see more here..........................................

Balbriggan Community College Under 17 & Under 19 Umbro Schools Cup, Match Reports.

In a blustery Bremore, Balbriggan Community College's under 17 soccer team opened their Umbro Junior campaign with a 3-1 victory over Colaiste na hInse Laytown.  The game did not start off to well for the Balbriggan men. Just before kick-off, they lost their centre half Michael Dunne through injury.He was replaced by Carl Sower who had an excellent game. This looked like having a huge impact on the game as inside the first two minutes Laytown scored from a corner. The ball was whipped in from the right and their centre forward out jumped everybody to head home at the back post. Balbriggan playing against the strong wind in the first had a mountain to climb.more
