Day one of the North Leinster Track and Field was a big success for Balbriggan Community College. We came away with a total of 8 medals. High Jumper Exauce Fimbo (5th Year) jumped 1.75m to come away with the senior boys high jump title and a PB. The attention stayed with the High Jump as Alamin Bankole  (TY) was next up, he also came away with a gold medal, claiming the Intermediate Boys title, and a PB of 1.75m. Staying with the field events, Issac Vungbo-Nyiombingbia (1st year) added to the schools high jump success as he cleared 1.45m in the Minor Boys event to claim a silver medal. Our last medal in the field events came in the Minor Boys Shot Put as Maximo Osifo Richard (1st year) won a silver medal, throwing 9.74m. Maximo finished joint 1st but then on count back he was awarded the silver medal in a very close competition.

Turning our attention to the track now, Honour Akinsanya (1st year) was the first sprinter to claim a medal in the 100m for Balbriggan CC, she finished the race in 2nd place to claim the silver medal in the Minor Girls event. Next up was Marvellous Agbator (5th year) in the Intermediate 100m, he won his heat convincingly and then went on to compete in a very competitive final where he finished 2nd. This was a competitive race with the top 3 athletes all national medalists over the past year. Our final sprinter was Bori Akinola (5th year), he had an impressive run in his heat to win and then went onto the final where he had an even more impressive run to claim the senior boys 100m title.

Day 2 saw Balbriggan CC come away with a further 4 medals. In the field events we had 2 bronze medals in the long jump. Yinka Adedokun (2nd year) came away with a bronze medal in the Intermediate boys event, while Aleksis Snitko (2nd year) also came away with a bronze medal in the U16 event. On track we had further success in the sprint events, Marvellous Agbator (5th year) had an impressive win in the Intermediate boys 200m heat and then in the final added to his silver medal in the 100m to claim bronze in the 200m. Bori Akinola (5th year) was the final sprinter up in the senior boys 200m, he won his heat convincingly and then went on to complete the senior boys sprint double by wining the 200m, a second title to add to his 100m title from Wednesday. Our final event on track was the Intermediate boys relay, Balbriggan CC’s team included Marvellous Agbator, Alamin Bankole, Ashraf Mmanga and Yinka Adedokun. They got off to a great start and were leading at one stage in the race but unfortunately they were pioped out of the medals on the line to place 4th.

Well done to all of our athletes. We came away with a record number of 12 medals, the most the school has ever won at the North Leinster Championships. We had 30 athletes travel each day so well done to everyone. All of the athletes mentioned above that won medals now qualify for the Leinster Championships on 15th and 18th May. Best of Luck to all.
